Have you read The Black Cat by Poe? . 😼 . I found it highly useful! (After reading it, I now make sure to keep my cat locked upstairs whenever I bury a body in the basement). . 😺 . This @obviousstate postcard is one that I’ll never send, it delights this rabid Poe fan way too much. . 😼 . Find our Poe Secret Safe Book by tapping link in bio. . 😻 . Have you read The Godfather? . 😻 . Ages ago, the lovely sasha_hawkins tagged me for #bookmadeintomovie and I’m willing to bet more people have seen the movies than have read the book. That’s me, anyway, (I’ve seen them three times plus clips). If I tagged you, I want to see another book-turned-movie! . 😻 . The Godfather is one of our most popular flask books, and Remus the Cat refused to let it steal the spotlight on this #Caturday, plopping himself right in the midst of the photo shoot. Well he is, after all, named after the infamous Cincinnati lawyer and bootlegger, George Remus. (Find our The Godfather secret flask book in the shop, tap link in bio) . . 📖 . Happy #MurakamiMonday! If I tagged you, I’ve enjoyed seeing your #Murakami posts in the past and would love to see another on an upcoming Monday! The Wind-up Bird Chronicle is the first Murakami I read earlier this year and was bewitched. I then went on to read The Strange Library, Kafka on the Shore, A Wild Sheep Chase, and my CR is Dance Dance Dance. What’s your favorite Murakami? . 📖 . Have a magical Monday, Booklovers! Which fantasy world would you most like to visit: Wonderland, Oz, Narnia, or Middle Earth? . 😻 . If you saw yesterday’s post, you’ll recall my kitty Remus “helping” with the photo shoot. Now behold the proper Alice shoot without his meddling, yet completely inspired by the Lewis Carroll kitties: The Cheshire Cat and Dinah! . 😻 . btw, personally I’d love to visit all four, but if I have to pick just one, I’d go with Middle Earth. I do plan to tumble down the rabbit hole later this summer though. You can find our Alice Secret Safe Book (including ribbon bookmark!) by tapping link in bio. . 😻 . Have you read any of the tales from The Arabian Nights? I hadn’t until just last night, when I randomly flipped through my Franklin Library edition you see there in red and read the short tale: “The Man Who Stole the Dish of Gold Wherein the Dog Ate.” It was highly amusing! A dog is filled with the spirit of God (Allah) and gives this poor guy his food and gold dish. I won’t spoil any more, because it’s only four pages😂. . 📖 . There are quite a few gorgeous editions of Tales from the Arabian Nights, including this blue Barnes & Noble edition we’ve turned into a Secret Safe Book. (Tap link in bio to shop). . 📖 . Have a fantastic Friday, Booklovers! Kara💖#SecretSafeBooks
Aaaah…roses and old books, two of my favorite scents. 🌹📖 What are some of your favorite scents? . . I plucked this rose from our garden, and it looks quite pretty; but the bummer is that this type of rose doesn’t have the strong rose scent. But the books pictured here do have that intoxicating traditional old book smell. Best. Aromatherapy. Ever. . . “… something blue.” . . . Did you have a “something blue” and/or something bookish for your wedding day? Or if unmarried, what would you choose for a blue/bookish something? . . . We eloped without many traditional customs, so there was no something blue. As far as bookishness, it just so happened that the location for our basic justice of the peace ceremony was in Chicago’s cultural center which was originally the central public library. . . . “Arrows that continually glanced off from Mr. Rochester’s breast and fell harmless at his feet, might, I knew, if shot by a surer hand, have quivered keen in his proud heart – have called love into his stern eye, and softness into his sardonic face; or, better still, without weapons a silent conquest might have been won.” — Charlotte Brontė, Jane Eyre . . . Hey Booklovers, do you have all the candy you need to satisfy your trick-or-treaters? . . . It’s been ages since I’ve been to a Halloween party. Usually my husband and I just stay home and watch a horror flick. When we were in Chicago, we were on the 2nd floor of a 6 flat building, so we never got any trick-or-treaters. So now that we’re in MN, it’s fun to pass out candy. We usually get around 20 – 30 kids. . . . What are your Halloween plans? . . .
